PROJECT OVERVIEW

 

WP1 Identification of present state of the art, problem areas, demand and definition of requirements
The aim of WP1 is to obtain information from end-users about the functionality, comfort, safety and convenience of clothing and textiles. The requirements will be collected on these aspects, limitations and challenges in regards to textiles which the elderly and caregivers face on a day to day basis. manufacturers seeking improvements in product performance, process technology will also provide information about their demands. Researchers will contribute their knowledge on new available materials and processes and general aspects of production. They will collect information on the possibility of changing the intrinsic properties of materials by incorporating functional components; modification of bulk properties by applying various treatments to textile structures or fibres or by amending the structure of textile construction.

  • Present state of the art: materials, processes, manufacturing techniques.
  • Non-technological barriers preventing the development of textiles for the elderly will be identified.
  • Survey research: questionnaires and personal interviews to investigate the appearance, functionality, comfort , convenience, safety and durability of products.
  • Information on the general aspects of production such as chemical consumption, costs, emissions, effluents and aspects of sustainability and recycling will be collected.
  • Comparison and benchmarking of available products, processes and performance will be made.

WP2 Common understanding between research institutions, industrial partners and end-users

The goal of WP2 is to achieve a mutual understanding of project objectives across the consortium. The goal will be achieved through visits between consortium members premises, organised themed workshops, seminars and discussion rounds with invited experts. The understanding of product implementation in practice, the demands and potential of technological developments will help all actors identify the barriers preventing innovation across the sectors (research – industry and end-users).

Mid and end year meetings will be organised at different venues of network partners. During these events, visits to partners premises  will be made. Visits will also be extended to end-users, companies and research institutions outside the network.

  • Overcoming of barriers between end-users, research institutions and industrial partners through interactions to understand how textile products can be implemented to market in practice.
  • General mutual understanding between partners with regard to potentials for innovation,
  • Increase the diffusion of knowledge between network partners with regard to technical feasibility, boundary conditions for product/process innovation and the definition of material quality relevant properties.
  • Extraction of information from related European Platforms.
WP3 Concentrating of new ideas
The objective of Wp3 is focused on generating innovative ideas and proposals for textile solutions. Brainstorming sessions serve as a means of group creativity within the consortium and for external experts such as health care professionals, anthropologists, social scientists, product designers, manufacturers and researchers and material experts. Experts will be invited from other EU countries in addition to those participating in the project, in order to provide a wealth of knowledge and perspective on each topic respectively. In this way, partners from all sectors will improve their team working skills and come up with new, innovative approaches.
WP4 Generation of joint and collaborative concepts
Aim to outline clear plans for collaborations between the industrial sector, researchers and end-users. These collaborations will look to include two or more partners from the consortium and may include external partners if external competencies are required. Efforts will be directed to identify funding sources for collaborations; funding may be sought in-house or from local/national or EU funding agencies. Product proposals for each group (bedding, clothing, hygiene and therapy) will be formed.
WP5 Internet communication tool
To focus on strengthening the communication of information within the project and to the public.
WP6 Dissemination
To increase the awareness about textiles for the elderly by dissemination at conferences, meetings, seminars, exhibitions, newsletters etc.
WP7 Management of the consortium
